Hi readers! My name is Justin Tilbe and I am the Project Support Specialist with Youth MOVE NH. Today I am going to write about a few things that I like to do when the summer is over and the winter blues are at risk of kicking in. You know summer is over and fall has begun in New Hampshire when the leaves start to change and the weather cools down and the smell of fresh apple crisp is in the air. Apple crisp is one of my favorite desserts to have when apple picking is at its prime. There are many farms in NH that allow you to pick your own fresh apples right from the trees, and what better way to pick than from a local farm to help small businesses. Another thing that makes fall so great in New Hampshire is the large number of fairs that you can choose from. I attend the Hopkinton Fair that kicks off right at the beginning of September every year. They offer so many things to see such as the demolition derby, the working dogs show and the great western style horse riding. The second fair I attend and my favorite that I have attended every year since I was 12 is the Deerfield Fair, which happens at the end of September into the first few days of October. Attending this fair has been a part of my family tradition for many years. This fair has the famous pig scramble, record breaking cattle pulls, the Flying Wallenda Family Circus (my favorite), and the great fair food that I can never get enough of. When I’m not out at a fair or working one thing I like to do is drive through neighborhoods to see the Halloween decorations and see how scary everyone makes their houses. One of my favorites is in Raymond, N.H., where they fill the yard with all kinds of crazy and scary objects, spider webs, and even scary music. I also take time to take my dog on many of the local trails in N.H. One trail that we use all the time is at Livingston Park in Manchester, N.H. The trail is dog friendly and is about a mile and a half walk in a circle with a pond in the center. Another trail that I like to take my dog to is Head’s Pond in Hooksett, N.H., which is a long straight trail ending with a beautiful view of the water.
